Security Software for OS X
Tuesday, October 23, 2007
The Brits are masters of security surveillance and their latest release of SecuritySpy is evidence. This easy to use OS X application makes adding USB, Firewire, network cameras very user friendly. What attracted me to this software was its ability to work on older PPC macs. So I dusted off the old MacMini and now I have a pretty basic home security in place. Some of the key things to consider here is prevention and off site data retention. I don’t want to catch someone after they have broken into my property but I want to prevent such an activity. So I made sure to make my cameras clearly visible. I may even consider putting a sign or two outside. Also, if someone were to break in and take my little Macmini, then SecuritySpy has me covered by letting me upload my movies to my FTP site. Check out some of the key features and the Live Demo on their website http://www.securityspy.com/. Another application to consider that has similar capabilities but not as CCTV friendly is Evological’s Evocam http://www.evological.com/. These guys are great Mac developers and have been around for a long time making useful utilities for video editors.
SecuritySpy is a multi-camera video surveillance application for the Macintosh.
This software will enable you to set up a comprehensive and effective surveillance system quickly and easily. The motion detection feature means that you can choose to capture footage only when there is some activity to record. In addition, you can use the timelapse feature to record continuously.
